Princess Amelia meets Streakin’ Stevens, Ethel and Bridget

Posted on: July 20, 2013

Dearest Princess Amelia, I am sure that your Mummy and Daddy may have thought that the title of this post mentioned Shakin’ Stevens. But I am very pleased to say that it doesn’t; it does mention a Streakin’ Stevens otherwise known as Ray Stevens. He had a lot of hits including  a few novelty songs. One of those songs might be quite appropriate for you especially as you like throwing off your clothes and shouting ‘Look at me’. That used to be called streaking, in fact it probably still is. I’m sure that it’s a lot of fun to do and that’s partly because the weather is hot and that you will be blissfully unaware of how embarrassed you might be when we remind you of that little habit when you’re 18. So enjoy it while you can and have a dance along to these Ray Stevens songs.

The Streak” was a number one single in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and the UK in 1974. Maybe we should reissue it in Godderwil. Other novelty songs from Mr Stevens that I think you might like are “Bridget The Midget (The Queen Of The Blues)” and “Jeremiah Peabody’s Polyunsaturated Quick-Dissolving Fast-Acting Pleasant-Tasting Green and Purple Pills“. The last of those is the longest song title ever to be a hit in the US charts, it was released in 1961. Ray also recorded some songs that weren’t novelties and I have given you two of those here as well; “Everything Is Beautiful” and “Indian Love Call“. I hope that you enjoy them all.
