Dearest Princess Amelia in your blog post a year ago I promised to always dedicate December to a Christmas song and that is what I will do. Last year I gave you “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by the Jackson 5, Bruce Springsteen and Mariah Carey and if you click here you can listen to those again.

FROSTY WALKING

This year I have chosen a special Christmas song about a snowman called Frosty. It is quite and old song which was written by Walter Rollins and Steve Nelson for a singer called Gene Autry. They thought they would write a Christmas song for him because he had been successful with his version of “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer“. This was a very, very long time ago in a land far, far away. In fact it was in 1950 in America.

I have chosen four different versions of the song and my favourite one is the last one by the Ronettes. I hope that you enjoy them and have a good dance to the music. I also hope that you have a wonderful Christmas.  There is also a short video about how to make your very own Frosty The Snowman. And finally don’t forget to ask Mummy and Daddy to click on NASA’s Santa Tracker on Christmas Eve so that you know when he will arrive in Godderwil.

Dearest princess Amelia I hope you’ve sent your list to Santa. I also hope that you’ve checked it twice and most importantly I hope that you’ve been good, because Santa Claus will always find out whether you’ve been naughty or nice. Personally I am very, very confident that you have not been naughty. Anyway as Christmas approaches the world and especially the kingdom of Godderwil I thought it would be fun to make this months post a Christmas related one. In fact I think that every December post will focus on a different Christmas song.

This time I have chosen one of my favourite Yuletide songs. I have liked this one since I was a little boy. It’s called “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town”. The song was written in 1934 by John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie. It was sung on Eddie Cantor’s US radio show in November 1934 and within a week 100,000 copies of the sheet music of the song had been sold, by Christmas that total had risen to 400,000. This was in the days before most people were able to buy recorded music so the sales charts were based purely on the sale of sheet music. But it was number one in the sheet music charts.

The song has been recorded by hundreds of different artists and in 1970 was even made into an animated film on which a very talented dancer by the name of Fred Astaire provided the narration. The film told the original story of Santa and how he came to be. I will show you three of my favourite versions of the song, one of which I hope will really get your dancing shoes moving before Santa comes to your house in a couple of weeks. Princess Amelia, Lady Catherine and I would like to wish you and all your subjects, servants and the rest of the Godderwil Royal Family a wonderful Christmas full of love, presents, food and festive fun.

Now you know the top secret workings of Santa's sleigh!

Princess Amelia don’t forget to ask Mummy and Daddy to click on NASA’s Santa Tracker on Christmas Eve so that you know when he will arrive in Godderwil.
